Perfect Your Bathroom by Making Small Changes with Great Impact

By Thomas Johnsen, CPC

Your bathroom is one of the most heavily used rooms in your home. Of course, all of this traffic causes a lot of wear and tear; your bathroom will be in need of an update from time to time. You may also need to make your bathroom a little more spacious to accommodate the needs of your growing family.

No matter why you want to update your bathroom, there are a number of benefits associated with doing so. Simply having things new and in working order is the biggest of these benefits. You might find that your grout is in need of replacement, some of your tiles may be chipped or cracked; your tub may also be in need of some work. When your bathroom is in need of work, it doesn't look so great. In fact, a bathroom which is in need of repair, it is easier for water damage to occur, as well as for mold and mildew to take hold.

Water damage is very expensive to fix if it does happen, and mold can be very dangerous to the point of making you ill. Therefore, if your bathroom is showing any signs of disrepair that may lead to water damage or mold, it's doubly imperative that you get it fixed.

Regrouting, replacing tiles and switching out those leaky old fixtures with new ones can prevent water damage - and if there is water damage or mold which already exists, then now is the time to have them fixed; you definitely don't want to wait for the problem to get worse - it will be a lot less expensive to fix it now rather than later.

A new tub, new fixtures and new tile can make your bathroom look a hundred times better; better yet, it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. If your tub is still functional but in need of a makeover, you can install a tub liner or have it refinished. A tub refinish will involve filling chips and nicks, then priming, sealing and repainting your tub in a new color. This is a good way to update your old tub without having to replace it entirely.

You can make your bathroom look a lot better by replacing old tile and regrouting. These steps will also help to prevent water damage. You can take it further and give your whole bathroom a new, up to date look by replacing your old sink and/or toilet and repainting. This is a relatively low cost way to update your bathroom.

Finally, updating your bathroom isn't just for your own benefit, although this is a very good reason. If your bathroom is seriously out of date, looks very worn, or is in disrepair, you risk hurting your chances of selling. Updating fixtures, wallpaper or paint, flooring, bathtub, toilet sink and vanity (as well as lighting fixtures, as applicable) can add several thousand dollars to the selling price of your home and make it much more likely that you'll sell in the end.

The bathroom is a place where we spend a lot of our time. It's unavoidable, so make your bathroom a pleasant place to be. A bathroom update can make the most commonly used room in your home a place which is luxurious and not just there out of necessity. - 20765
